One of the things that I really enjoy about photography is capturing everyday moments in real time. Some of these images could be as simple as taking a photo of raindrops on the window, or of an interesting shadow on the wall, or of my daughter’s face as she opens her birthday presents, or of my dog sleeping in his bed. A few of these images can soon become some of my favourites in my photo collection.
And this is the thing about photography: you don’t always have to capture photos in the perfect light. They don't have to be ones of incredible city skylines or of jaw-dropping seascapes. You are not always aiming to win photographer of the year. At times, the ordinary can be extraordinary. As I say, some of my favourite photos are ones where I have simply captured moments in time. In the majority of cases, I hadn’t even planned to take a photo. Some of the images I’ve managed to capture are so good, in my opinion, that I want to share them with other people. To do so, I print and frame the photos and then display them in different rooms of my home.
How to turn ordinary moments into cherished home décor
At a time when we seem to be surrounded by perfect images, I feel that it can be rather refreshing to celebrate the ordinary, managing to turn what are basically simple, everyday photographs into something that can be displayed around the home. These types of images often feel more genuine and can be extremely uplifting.
These images are way more personal and familiar, which enables them to bring an additional homely touch when placed in a picture frame and displayed in a room in your house. When viewing the picture frame and the photo housed inside of it, you are taken back to that moment and that memory. And for other people who see the frame and image, they can then enjoy the moment for themselves. They might enquire as to when the photo was taken or have a question about something else to do with the image. These photographs are, therefore, great conversation starters as well.
When I go about deciding which photographs I want to print and frame, I look for images that A) I am very proud of, B) make me smile, and C) are ones that I think other people would like to view. I certainly don't rush the decision, as I am someone who loves looking through all the photos that I have taken.
The choice of which picture frame to go for is very much a personal one. For this reason, it’s definitely worth experimenting. If the first picture frame doesn’t quite do the job, then you could go for a different material or a different colour to see what works better. Before long, you will no doubt have found the ideal picture frames to house these special photos. It is then a simple case of deciding where to display them around your home.
