FAQ – Ordering a Picture Frame Without a Mount
Can I buy a custom picture frame without a mount?
Yes - all our frames can be ordered without a mount. Simply enter your artwork measurements when ordering, and we'll make the frame to fit perfectly. A mountless display lets your photo, print, or artwork fill the entire frame window, giving a clean, modern look.
How should I measure my artwork for a frame with no mount?
To get the perfect fit, measure the exact width and height of your artwork (in millimetres). We'll make the internal frame size to match. Please note that about 4-5mm of your image edge will sit under the frame lip to hold your artwork securely in place. Can I have a stand back on my frame?
Most of our picture frames are designed for hanging only. We can fit a stand back to frames up to an internal measurement of 10" x 12" (254mm x 305mm), but you’ll need to request this in the special instructions when placing your order.
Will the frame protect my artwork without a mount?
Definitely. Every frame includes your choice of clear, anti-glare, or UV-protective acrylic glazing plus a 2.5mm MDF backing board. Even without a mount, your artwork stays flat, secure, and protected from dust, light, and moisture. However, using a mount can provide extra protection and prevent the artwork from touching the glazing. For glossy prints or photos, we recommend using a mount to stop the print sticking to the glazing over time.
Can I add a picture mount after ordering my frame?
Yes! You can order a mount separately — just ensure the outside dimensions match the internal size of your frame. Alternatively, you can choose our Frame and Mount option to order both together, or visit our Picture mounts section to choose your size, colour, and aperture size.
How long does it take to order a custom frame without a mount?
All of our made-to-measure frames are handcrafted in our Bedfordshire workshop and usually dispatched withing 2-4 working days. Every order is safely packaged and tracked for fast delivery across the UK.
Can you make bespoke sizes or unusual dimensions?
Absolutely - we specialise in custom-sized picture frames. Simply enter you exact measurements when ordering, and our framers will build your frame to fit (up to our maximum size of 110cm x 81.5cm). Whether you need a small photo frame or a large panoramic piece, we'll make it to your exact requirements.
