Canvas floating frames

Canvas floater frames are perfect for canvas pictures or artwork that have already been stretched over a wooden stretcher frame.
Our canvas tray frames are designed to have a 5mm shadow gap between the canvas and the frame, this gives the impression that the canvas is floating inside the frame.

Canvas Floating Frames – Tray Frames for Stretched Canvas Prints
Enhance your artwork with our made-to-measure canvas floating frames, also known as tray frames. These elegant wooden frames are designed specifically for stretched canvas prints, creating a clean, modern “floating” effect around your canvas.
Each frame is custom-built to your canvas size and handcrafted in our Bedfordshire workshop. Trusted by artists, galleries and photographers across the UK, our floating frames offer a professional finish with easy online ordering and fast delivery.
What Is a Canvas Floating Frame?
A floating frame is designed to surround your canvas print without covering the front edge of the artwork. It creates a small gap (or “float”) between the edge of the canvas and the frame itself, giving the illusion that the canvas is suspended within the frame. Our tray-style frames are made to order and built to fit your stretched canvas dimensions exactly.
Frame Styles and Finishes
Choose from a wide selection of wooden floating frames to complement your canvas, including:
Classic black or white wood

Each frame is finished by hand and comes ready to assemble with easy-to-follow instructions and a hanging kit.

Etsy shop owners and online canvas sellers
Whether it’s a single artwork or a full exhibition, our frames provide a refined finish for your display.
How to Order the Right Size
We recommend entering the exact size of your stretched canvas, and we’ll calculate the correct internal recess to create the floating effect.
Your frame will be cut to allow a 5cm shadow gap around the canvas edges so the canvas appears to float in the frame. If you’re unsure about sizing or need advice, we’re happy to help, or follow our measuring guide below.

How to measure your artwork for a canvas floating frame in three easy steps.

Take exact measurements of your canvas in millimetres from edge to edge at its widest points as shown in the example, then enter the exact width and height in the boxes provided.
Use a metal tape measure for accurate measurements.

Measure the depth of your canvas in millimetres. You will be given a choice of 3 different depth frames, select the nearest depth available relevant to the depth of your canvas.
Our canvas floating frames come in 3 different depths of 22mm, 30mm and 40mm.
It is quite normal for your canvas depth to be slightly less than the rebate depth of the frame.

Your frame will be made with an allowance of 5mm on all sides between the frame and the canvas, this gives the impression that the canvas is floating in the frame.
• Supplied with hook and loop self-adhesive pads and pre-drilled screw holes with screws for attaching the canvas to the frame (once you have it central in the frame).
• Full fitting instructions will be included with your floating frame.
