Picture Framing Ideas for the Ensuite Bathroom

  • joybrealey's Blog

If you are fortunate enough to live in a property that has an ensuite bathroom you may have wondered as to what types of picture frames to include in the room. There are certain things to consider due to the nature of the room, and we will discuss these in today’s blog post.

The types of picture frames suited for an ensuite bathroom

The first thing to decide is whether you even want any picture frames in this room. Some people like to go down the minimalist route and this is of course fine. It will often depend on the size of the ensuite. Some, of course, are very small and adding items such as picture frames can soon make the room feel cluttered. Other ensuites are of a more generous size and where to include one or more picture frames would enhance the room. As it is a bathroom it would be prudent to use picture frame materials that are water-resistant such as acrylic, resin, or sealed wood. It is best to avoid materials prone to warping, such as untreated wood.

We all have personal preferences about the type of subject matter to include within the frame. For the ensuite bathroom, I like to choose pictures that do not overstimulate. One’s where they help to keep me in a calm and relaxed manner which will hopefully aid me in my sleep. Coastal prints, one’s of water such as the sea or a river, and one’s of nature such as a woodland scene are the types I go for.

Before retiring to bed, I like to wind down by reading a book by the open fireplace. After reading a few chapters I usually feel ready to go upstairs to bed as I can feel my eyes and body wanting to fully relax and get cosy under the sheets. Before getting into bed, I go into the ensuite to clean my teeth. The last thing I want at this stage is to be overstimulated by the art or prints hanging on the wall. So, action prints of sports or a music concert are a no-go, as are ones of family get-togethers such as a birthday party.

If you have ever been lucky enough to go on a spa day you will no doubt, remember the amazing ambiance of the room where you may have had a treatment such as a massage. This is the type of vibe we are looking to create, without the relaxing music. They often include floral or abstract themes in soft colours.

I prefer to go with small picture frames to not overwhelm the room. The ensuite that we have is what I would consider to be of an average size, it is by no way a tiny room. But even so, to include large picture frames in this space would not suit the atmosphere I am trying to create. To add that final piece of the jigsaw and to complete the scene I have added small LED lights around the frames for added focus and ambience.
