There is just something so frustrating about finding that one of your favourite photographs has been damaged or that, over time, it has faded. We all do our best to keep our prized possessions, including our photo albums and other photographs, stored securely and safely, but from time to time, even this is not enough. There are times when we want to view some of our old photographs, perhaps we have a family wedding coming up, and we want to display some of the older photographs of one of our family members at the ceremony. It could be that one of our children is about to introduce us to a new girlfriend/boyfriend, and we want to embarrass them by bringing out the photos of when they were a baby and a young child. But then it happens, you locate the photographs that you were hoping to show, but find that they are no longer in the immaculate condition you had left them in.
What to do when you realise one of your favourite photos is damaged
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way” is a proverb which should be called upon at this time. It’s a case of thinking positively; there is no time to despair. In the above examples, the girlfriend/boyfriend and the wedding will soon be here; therefore, we must act decisively and proactively, with a “can-do” attitude.
Fortunately, there are photo restoration services which are able to help restore your photographs and bring them back to their former glory. They can also add colour to your black and white photographs, smooth out wrinkles and improve the lighting, plus there are many additional options available.
Once discovering that such a service is available, the next common question that people ask is how much it costs. As with anything like this, each and every photo restoration job is different, but the price is usually between £25 and £60. The more complex the image, the more expensive it tends to be. The amount will, of course, be discussed with you before any work is completed.
The way it works is your photo will be scanned to create a digital copy. After this stage has been completed, you will be handed back the photo and advised as to how much it will cost to restore the photograph. If you are happy with the price and would like to go ahead with the service, the specialist restoration artist will then work to restore the damaged photo to the way it was before and with what other changes you might have requested. You will then be presented with this restored image printed up to 8”x12”. The restored image can also be sent to you via email if required. If, for whatever reason, you are not happy with the results, you are usually able to request further changes at no extra cost. As a rough guide, on average, it takes between three and five working days from start to finish to complete the task.
