We are a nation that loves animals and the majority of households in the United Kingdom have at least one pet. If you are one of these households, you’ll likely agree that this pet is very much part of the family. My parents ran an animal sanctuary when I was growing up where they would rescue stray and abandoned animals. My mum would often joke that she preferred animals to humans. I am pretty sure she meant it though. And that was not because of how she treated her children or any other human but because of how she would glow when in the company of rabbits, cats, dogs and any other animal. The fact that animals were the main focus of their lives and a main source of happiness, my parents would have numerous framed pictures of their pets in various rooms of our house. Some of these pets had passed but definitely were not forgotten. One of these was a dog that they named Tramp. He had been brought to them in a terrible state and had numerous health issues. He looked like he had lived on the streets for a long time, and had not received any love, care or affection for many a year. Instead of rehoming Tramp, they managed to nurse him to recover his health and then kept him as our family dog. He lived for another fifteen years. If I remember rightly there was at least one framed photo of Tramp in each of the main rooms of my childhood home. He was such a character who made all of our lives that much richer. If you were ever feeling a little down or upset you would go and spend time with Tramp. He’d soon make you feel great again.
In virtually every house up and down the country there will be framed photographs of children and grandchildren proudly displayed on the walls. As animals are very much seen as part of our family then it makes sense also to hang some picture frames displaying them as well. Unless there, of course, was a valid reason not to. These animals provide a lot of special moments and memories whether it be when running on the beach, swimming in the sea, playing in the park, playing fetch with a ball, cuddling up on the sofa, and sleeping in their beds. We will, no doubt, capture some of the moments with our camera. This, of course, helps us to preserve the memories and to replay them time and time again. Your pets may well be tucked up asleep in their bed as you retire up to yours. As you enter your bedroom you see a framed photo of them having a fantastic time playing in the mud. The memory of that day comes instantly back into your mind as you raise a smile. Your pet is happy in bed and you are now going to bed with a smile on your face. What is not to like?
