The weather, at times, during the last few weeks, has been magnificent. Summer officially started on the 21st of June, and it sure started with a bang. The brighter weather and longer days sure help to inspire and to make one feel alive, and these are feelings I want to continue when I arrive back from one of our day trips or evenings out at a friend’s barbecue. To set foot into our house only to be met with a less vibrant vibe can quickly change the mood. It could be time to make some changes to the theme and ambience of the property to keep it in line with the new season.
How to create a summer vibe with a gallery wall
For some, this whole task could be seen as somewhat of a choir. The idea of attempting to give your home a makeover to create a more uplifting vibe, more in tune with the summer, during a time of sticky heat, is not something that appeals to everyone. We are, of course, all different, and this is without doubt a good thing. I am a person who loves to rearrange, to change themes, and to create a new look. I get a buzz out of it as I know that I am going to really like and benefit from the finished look. It doesn’t have to be hard work, and it doesn’t have to take a long time. You also don’t have to change every room. I started by creating a gallery wall for what we consider to be the main room in our house, the living room and placed it above the sofa. I then made subtle changes to some of the other rooms, simply attempting to include more uplifting colours in them.
The picture gallery wall was without doubt the main focus, as the living room is very much a social space in our home where we spend a lot of time. Choosing a gallery wall enabled me to tell the story of our recent holiday via photographs I had taken, and to have them arranged together to create a visually engaging display. I included many of our favourite photos from the trip and placed them in order according to when they happened. I started with a photo of the aeroplane, then it was a photo of our first glimpse of the island, taken on board the aeroplane. Then, a photo of the hotel which was taken when we arrived. This was followed by the first photo I took of the room, and then one of the swimming pools, etc.
I chose an eclectic style of gallery wall as this allowed me to mix it up with the sizes and shapes and to arrange them in a free-form layout.
Just seeing these photos, especially the ones where I can see the joy on people’s faces, helps to bring a smile to my face. The gallery wall has also helped to keep the memories of our wonderful holiday fresh in our minds.
