Summer Picture Framing Themes

  • joybrealey's Blog

We have been enjoying plenty of hot, sunny days here in the UK in recent weeks; some would go as far as to say it’s been too hot and humid. The summer has certainly started with a bang weather-wise, and it seems from what the reports say that we have plenty more fine days to come. During these periods, people tend to spend a lot more time outdoors, for obvious reasons. But when we do arrive back home, I always feel that it’s important that our interiors, including furnishings and picture frames, continue to maintain the buzz that summer brings.

Picture framing ideas for the summer

I recently spent a day out on the coast with one of my best friends. We had a great time visiting several different beaches; we went for a long walk along the promenade and then had a meal at a restaurant overlooking the sea. This is very much the kind of day that I love, as there is something that I find very calming about being by the sea and hearing the waves. We drove back to his house and then watched one of the World Cup football matches on TV. I couldn’t help but notice his picture frames and, more importantly, what was housed inside them. It was all rather dark! Don’t get me wrong; they were impressive pieces but not, in my opinion, ideal choices for the summer season.

I left to go home, said my goodbyes and thanked my friend for helping me to have such a fabulous day. On the journey back to where I live, I reminisced about all the wonderful things that we had done and seen, but my mind also kept thinking about the themes of those picture frames. Yes, crazy I know! Should I mention it to my friend? Is he likely to become offended if I do?

The next day, the strangest thing happened. I met up with the same friend to have a game of snooker, during which he stated that he was thinking of changing the theme of his picture frames to be more in line with the summer. It was like he had read my mind, or perhaps he had noticed me looking at the frames and had seen that I was not impressed. I have no idea what inspired him to think about it, and of course it’s highly unlikely to be either of those two reasons, but the result was a positive one.

When going round to his house a couple of weeks later, he showed me the new look. There were a couple of seascape prints, there was a piece of artwork which included his favourite beach, there was a vintage-style travel poster, a close-up art print of summer fruits, a classic botanical illustration of summer-blooming plants, and he had printed and framed a photograph that he had recently taken of a local outdoor swimming pool.

To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. The summer vibe from outside is now very much continuing inside as well.
