I fondly remember how excited I was as a child during the Easter period. There were just so many fun things happening. At school, we would make Easter cards for our family, there would be an Easter bonnet parade, we would decorate hard-boiled eggs with different colours and the teacher would decide which they thought was the best, and there would be a play in the school hall which would tell the story of Easter. At home, my parents and grandparents would organise an Easter egg hunt, and last but not least, there was the receiving and eating of Easter eggs. I just remember receiving plenty of eggs and very much enjoyed eating all of them.
To keep the magic of Easter alive into adulthood and to try and make the period as enjoyable for your children and grandchildren as possible there are various things you can do in addition to the above.
How family art projects can enhance the enjoyment of Easter
In my family, we enjoy doing activities together and at Easter, we like to create our own art projects. This is where we paint different scenes depicting the period, some in the family prefer to draw and others prefer to make other things, such as hats. We don't have any hard and fast rules as that would make it far too restrictive. It's just a case of having fun with everyone creating their own little masterpiece of whatever they choose. The main thing is that we are all doing it together at the same time. The tips come thick and fast, such as "I think it would look better yellow" or "Why don't you add a ribbon to that as it would really make it stand out?"
We don't pick an overall winner like they did when I was at school. It's not about that, it's about spending quality time together, having a lot of laughs and making plenty of mess!
After we have completed our pieces it's then a case of choosing which drawings and artwork that are going to be framed and displayed around our home. This is the part the children or grandchildren like to be fully engaged in. They are able to choose a picture frame that we already have, or they can pick a new one.
To see all of the pieces on display just adds to the enjoyment of Easter for everyone and creates memories for the future. We have memory boxes where we keep the previous year's creations, and these are always fun to go through and to look back at what various members of the family produced in the past.
By placing the art and drawings in picture frames is a great way to help preserve them for the future so that when we do go back and take a look at what everyone produced in the past they still look as pristine as they day when they were created.
I know this type of thing isn't for everyone, but our family enjoy the whole experience.
