The start of a new year often arrives with mixed emotions, depending on how you approach life. For some it is a time of new possibilities and opportunities; out with the old and in with the new as the saying goes. For others, it is not such a positive time as they struggle to return to normality after the fun and excitement of the festive period. If you are in the second camp then there are simple ways to help you to get out of this rut and even to continue with the positivity from the holiday period.
How to banish the post-festive blues
The majority of people look forward to and are able to have a fabulous time at Christmas. They get to spend quality time with their family and friends and have a few days off work. They give and receive presents, and are able to enjoy great food and drink. What’s not to like?
For some, the problems start when all of this fun ends. And this is usually the period straight after the new year. So, what can be done to avoid such a drop off in our emotional state?
It’s all about attempting to keep ourselves in this happy state of mind and what better way to do this than by reliving the best moments over and over again?
You will no doubt have taken many photos with your smartphone or camera, perhaps of the children opening the presents, of Dad cutting the turkey at the dinner table, of the food itself all laid out impressively on the table, of the Christmas tree, of the children playing with their new toys, of people playing board games, or of any other type of experience you had. The options are endless.
These are all memories and fantastic ones at that. It is now a case of bringing these memories back to life and back into the forefront of your mind. And you can do that simply by taking them off your camera or smartphone and printing and framing some of them.
You could have some of your favourite photos housed in a single frame and others in a multi-photo frame, the choice is yours.
You could take one or more of these picture frames to work, to perhaps have sat on your desk. If at any time you start to feel somewhat low being back to work after the highs of the festive period it is then a simple case of looking at these frames and the incredible memories they show. It will then take you back temporarily to that moment in time and is sure to put a smile on your face. This is the power of picture frames and why so many people love them. If you have ever wondered why some of your work colleagues have picture frames on their desks then this is likely to be the reason why.
You can, of course, also display some of these festive memories at home. Our lowest periods do not just happen when we are at work and, therefore, to have some of your favourite Christmas experiences on show in your home as well is well worth it.
