Creating a Graduation Keepsake Worthy of the Occasion

  • joybrealey's Blog

For any parent that has a child attend university, it is a proud moment and one that they can't wait to share with family and friends. It's not that they are showing off; it's more that they want to pass on the good news as it truly is a magnificent achievement. When looking back to the first day that they dropped their son or daughter off at school this was potentially a hope and aim for the future; and one that has now been realised. If it was a proud moment hearing that your child has successfully gained a place at university imagine just how incredible it feels if they end up graduating three or more years later. Attending the graduation ceremony is truly fantastic and is something you will want to cherish, document and remember forever. To do so it is worth creating a graduation keepsake worthy of this special occasion.

This keepsake can not only be something that you create for yourself; it would be a fabulous and thoughtful gift to pass on to close family and friends. Just imagine how pleased they would be to receive such a gift, for example, a grandparent. It is likely to be something that they would treasure forever.

So how should one go about creating such a keepsake? There are numerous options but one which is very popular is to create a photo collage to include several of your favourite photos from the event. A copy of the diploma certificate could sit proudly in the middle with other photos surrounding it.

The types of graduation photos to include in a photo collage

There are no set rules about which photos you should or shouldn't use in a graduation photo collage and the choice is entirely yours. Here are a few examples to help inspire:

A photo with friends from the university

Your son or daughter is likely to have met many friends at university, some of which may well end up becoming friends for life. Including a photo with one or more of these friends can be a great conversation starter as it is likely to remind you of certain times and events.

A photo receiving the diploma

This is a must for many people and is one of the most popular and sought-after photos from the graduation ceremony, for obvious reasons.

A photo holding the diploma outside the ceremony

To see the pride and joy in your child's face as they hold the diploma is one that you are likely to remember forever and one that is certainly worth sharing with others.

A photo with the family

The graduation ceremony is a truly family affair, and a family photo really is a must! The graduate being front and centre is always a popular choice, with their close family members surrounding them.

A photo from the first day of school

Including a photo from your child's first ever day at school is likely to bring a smile to the faces of those who view the photo collage and is most certainly another conversation starter! Talking about how small they were, or how cute they looked, or about how they remember them from back then, as examples. It's a great way to reminisce and see just how far they have come.

A photo of throwing the graduation hats in the air

One of the most fun parts of the day is when the graduates throw their graduation hats in the air. This would make a great action photo and is one that would enhance the photo collage.
