For businesses with customers walking around premises able to take notice of poster displays on your walls, poster advertising is an effective way to promote your events, products, and additional services to customers.
The bigger your premises, the more posters that could be effective.
In advertising, there used to be a rule of seven that referred to the traditional wisdom that an advert needed to be seen by someone at least seven times. It worked for decades for direct marketing. Posters, flyers, billboards, etc. With digital marketing thrown into the mix, additional exposure is needed now because there are more touch points to reach customers.
Your premises is only one touch point. Digital marketing can be effective at getting people to your premises. Print advertising will be more effective within business premises. More so when presented professionally in a bespoke poster frame.
The Purpose of Print Posters for Advertising
Posters in advertising are primarily intended to promote a product, event or a service. As such, in a store or venue, there is a myriad of purposes.
- A clothing store could place a poster in the changing rooms to promote a fitting service
- A gym could use a print poster to advertise upcoming group classes
- Local cinemas use print posters to advertise films on show, and the films due to be released
- Local restaurants and bars use print posters to advertise theme events
Repurposing Poster Frames to Promote Various Events, and/or Products
In venues where events are frequently changing, the frame the poster is displayed in does not need to change. This is the part where colour selection makes all the difference.
The most universal colour choices to accommodate design changes are black, white, and silver. For cost-savings, the majority of frames for print advertising posters are either black or metallic silver as those are colours that can be repurposed.
For venues hosting different events, such as theme nights like a karaoke, ‘80s night, stand-up comedy, (music) jam sessions, or perhaps a Lamb Sunday or Curry Friday at a local restaurant, choosing a universal colour (one that goes with almost everything) for a poster frame that fits with your decor lets the same frame be used with different posters.
The only additional expense would be the print cost. Once printed, the event can be updated to let regular customers (and new visitors) know what is happening, and when.
Think of it like a notice board for a local venue. An upgrade from perhaps a framed cork board used to pin unframed posters onto, which is usually seen in churches and community centres. In a commercial setting, the framed poster is more fitting.
What Size of Frame to Display Poster Adverts Indoors?
The majority of posters designed for indoor displays are A2 (420 x 594mm). Sizes vary by supplier. The print and frame service at The Picture Gallery cover custom sizes up to a maximum of 24” x 36” for poster printing and framing. Commercial printing houses can have print sizes upwards of 40” x 60”; larger for outdoor posters such as billboard posters.
What Glazing to Use with Poster Frames?
The glazing on frames used within commercial spaces is usually acrylic for safety reasons. Framing a laminated poster could be framed with no glazing. The laminated coating would provide moisture protection. What laminating does not do is provide UV protection or anti-glare qualities. For those, use either UV-resistant acrylic glazing or anti-glare acrylic glazing.
