Some people think that adding art to their home is likely to be way too expensive. But like most things in life, there are levels. It does not have to cost an arm and a leg, it’s simply a case of doing a fair amount of research and having a little creativity.
The art that you display is a way to show the type of character you are for the visitor. As an example, you may well enjoy spending time at the coast, watching and listening to the sea. This is something that a lot of people find therapeutic. To have scenic coastal art displayed in certain rooms of the house could help create a calming ambience and would enable you to mentally go to your happy place in an instant.
So, you know the type of art that you would like to adorn your walls but where can you find said pieces for a budget price? A simple search using your favourite search engine is the first port of call for most people. You could put into the search box “up and coming artists in” followed by the area you live. There are numerous variations of this search query, and you could also attempt to find local art fairs.
Spending time sourcing and researching artists in your local area and visiting events where they display their art should be seen as fun and interesting, rather than as a chore. It could also lead to the start of a new friendship and business relationship with the artist.
If you have your own business which can display art on the walls of your premises, such as a coffee shop or cafe, you could offer to do this for the artist. Your customers could even have the option to purchase the art as well as to view it. Any sales that you are able to make for the artist could well lead to either a commission or a discount for you to purchase your own pieces from them.
I have a friend who stores art for an artist who does not have enough space in their home or studio. He met the artist in the local village hall where an art fair was taking place. They struck up a conversation and discussed many things and at one point my friend asked if there was any way in which he could help this budding young artist. This is when the lack of available room to store the art was mentioned as an issue. In return for storing the art, my friend is able to purchase art from the artist at a 20% discount.
In the above scenario, everyone is a winner. My friend can purchase the art that he loves from one of his favourite artists at a discounted price. The artist has solved the problem of storage and is able to sell some of their art. They are both happy!
It’s a similar situation for the business owner who can display and sell the artist's work. They receive a commission or discount, and the artist obtains a sale. A win for both once again.
Art is an extremely competitive field, mainly due to the sheer number of artists that are out there. The majority would love additional exposure and would appreciate any help that people can provide. In return most would offer some form of discount as a way of saying thank you and because it is a sale.
